Ready for a feel-good story? Here's the creative way a Canadian horseman handled the problem of an orphaned foal.

Tia the foal had lost her mother to colic shortly after birth, so for breeder Glen Wutzke and his wife, that meant round-the-clock bottle feedings. A suggestion from their vet sparked a laborsaving idea.



"He called and said goat's milk was a very close second to the mare's milk, and if we could find a goat to milk, then we could supplement it with milk from the goat. So when we got the goat, we just sort of took it a step farther, and thought well, we'll try putting the young horse onto the goat and it worked quite well."



Millie the goat quickly accepted Tia's nursing and would even climb onto an overturned sleigh to make herself easier to reach. Tia flourished and the Wutzkes slept through the night. The Tia and Millie story has been documented in a video and on a web site called "My Mom's a Goat."
